Some ideas for product design – taking binding considerations into account

PERFECT BINDING

  • The bleed margin in header, footer and towards the spine can be + 5–10 mm, while the width of the raw size of the publication should not exceed 305 mm (e.g. landscape A4).
  • Due to adhesive run-out, the raw height of the cover at the head and foot should be at least 2–4 mm higher than the raw inside page height.
  • For perfect-bound products, if the spine thickness is more than 40–45 mm and the cover material is not of the right quality, the edge of the publication may be “burred” and tear during cutting, thus we do not recommend this.
  • When printing on heavily loaded coated papers with dark colours (black, burgundy, blue, green), the print should be made with a 3–5 mm gap at the side joints of the first and last pages of the brochures to avoid the glue running and therefore the pages sticking together.

SEWN BINDING

  • sewn binding is recommended for a min. of 3 sheets;
  • four-sided, single-folded sheet cannot be sewn-bound;

HARD COVER

  • The bleed margin in header, footer and towards the spine can be + 5–10 mm, while the width of the raw size of the publication should not exceed 305 mm (e.g. landscape A4).
  • When printing on heavily loaded coated papers with dark colours (black, burgundy, blue, green), the print should be made with a 3-5 mm gap at the side joints of the first and last pages where the flyleaf is to be glued and at the fly leaf to avoid the glue running and therefore the pages sticking together.
  • Our bookmarker and endband technology is adapted to Güth & Wolf (http://www.gueth-wolf.de) materials. Our company can only purchase this product range. If other types of endbands or bookmarkers are required, they must be provided by the customer.
  • We cannot be held responsible if the material provided by the customer from another manufacturer is not suitable. We reserve the right to refuse to use them.

  • We use 2:1 and 3:1 metal twin spirals and
  • a square punch tool;
  • we can bind publications up to 38 mm by manual wire binding;
  • we offer sectional wire binding on low-powered machines, using manual operations
